Alsace is a picturesque region in northeastern France, known for its unique charm, unique blend of French and German cultures and the most impressive Christmas Markets in Europe.

December is the best period to visit this beautiful region, especially if you love Christmas markets, festive ambiance and the sense of being in a winter fairytale.

In this post I will focus on the places that I visited myself last time when I was lucky enough to travel in Alsace in Christmas period: Strasbourg and Colmar, where the best Christmas markets in Alsace are located.

Strasbourg - The Capital Of Christmas

Nestled in the heart of Alsace, Strasbourg proudly wears the crown as the Capital of Christmas, thanks for its amazing Christmas markets and beautiful decorations that together with traditional bright timbered houses and narrow streets creates a unique festive charm.

Strasbourg's illustrious Christmas markets, dating back to the 16th century, offer an amazing experience.

With its blend of Alsatian heritage and incredible festive spirit, Strasbourg stands as an iconic Christmas destination, inviting everyone to experience the magic of the season and create unforgettable memories.

The Christmas market starts on 24 November and ends on 24 December. On 24 December it is open until 6 PM. If you haven't booked your accommodation yet - hurry up - the prices have already went up.

Charming Tiny Colmar

Colmar, a town in 70 km from Strasbourg, becomes a real jewel during the Christmas season due to its enchanting atmosphere and picturesque beauty.

The Christmas markets in Colmar, each with its distinct character and charm, transport visitors into a world of wonder. From the medieval ambiance of Place des Dominicains to the cozy setting of Petite Venise, these markets create amazing ambiance of Christmas period.

Here is the list of Christmas markets in Colmar:

• Place de l'Ancienne Douane

• Koifhus Indoor Market

• Place Jeanne d'Arc

• Gourmet Market

All those markets, except for Gourmet Market, are open from 23 November until 23 December. The Gourmet Market is open until 29 December - great news for those who is coming to Colmar a bit late.
