Best Time to Visit Cyprus
Updated: Jan 31
What is the best time to go to Cyprus? What is the weather in Cyprus during the year? In this post, I will try to answer these questions and help you to choose the best time to render a visit to this beautiful island.
Melting Peak Season
Summer in Cyprus is hot, it's determined by its geographic location. The average daily temperature is 32 degrees in July-August - the peak season, so if you want to relax on the beach, swim in the sea, go for short walks after 8-9 PM and if in general, you are not afraid of +35-40 degrees during the peak hours, then, visiting Cyprus in July-August is what you need.
Think twice, thought, about coming to Cyprus in August - it's a time of the year when locals are normally taking holidays, and you are risking not finding free sunbeds in popular Cypriot resorts. Also, it's super-super hot. I'm serious. Think twice!
Velvet Season
If you want to explore the island without the risk of being surrounded by tourists, ride and walk around, maybe do some sports and you want to forget your jacket at home, then you can consider coming to Cyprus between either the end of September - end of November or beginning of March - mid-April.
The average daily temperature is around 27-28 degrees in the end of September - October, falling up to 22 degrees in November. In March, the average temperature is 19 degrees, then towards the end of April it becomes around 22 degrees.
At the end of September-beginning of October you can even swim, and for brave ones - feel free to open swimming season in early April. When I just moved to Cyprus, after my first winter there I started swimming in the cool sea even in mid-March when the daily temperature reached 22-23 degrees!).
Paradise Winter
If you do not mind being a bit frozen inside of your apartment and learning new skills of how to warm up using the air-conditioning - then you can visit Cyprus in December-February, and enjoy beautiful empty beaches not spoiled by the tourists (and even locals!).
The temperature in December-February is between 16 to 19 degrees, with January being the coldest month of the year, when you can often observe the clouds and rain.
You can do as many sports as you wish, walk / cycle/run / ride around the whole island without a risk of getting sunburned, and explore the cuisine, culture, history and atmosphere of the country as it is.
You can even enjoy the snow in the local mountains - Troodos, coming back to the beaches to grab a beer or even swim if you are ready to enjoy water below 20 degrees. This period would be the cheapest to visit the island both in terms of flights and hotels.
The best time to visit the island
If you are not a fan of hot weather but still want to enjoy swimming in the warm sea and getting some tan, then coming to Cyprus in September or May-June is the best decision for you. The average daily temperature in May is 26 degrees, in June and September - 29 degrees.
It's not too hot (ok, in June it might be around 30 degrees if you are (un)lucky), the water is rather comfortable for swimming, and you should be able to explore the island in the morning and late afternoons, without dying from the heat. For me, this period is the best for most (active) tourists to get the maximum from this magnificent island.
Each season in Cyprus is beautiful and can provide its guests with opportunities to enjoy this marvellous island and take a maximum from what it can suggest. What is the best time to visit Cyprus?
